Emery In Philadelphia
Former Ottawa Senator’s goalie Ray Emery seems poised to sign a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers for the 2009/2010 season. The deal is reportedly worth $1.5 Million and Emery will have one year to prove to the Flyers that the off-ice antics that saw him run out of Ottawa are a thing of the past. Emery spent last season playing for playing for Atlant Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League and upon his return to the NHL, will have to compete for the number one job in Philly with Martin Biron. This won’t be the first time Emery and Biron fought it out – they were involved in one of the more memorable goalie fights while Biron was with Buffalo and Emery was in Ottawa.
Jacques Lemaire Florida Bound?
After stepping down from his post as head coach of the Minnesota Wild, Jacques Lemaire is reportedly heading south. Both the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers have expressed interest in Lemaire to join their clubs in an advisory role. Lemaire owns a house in Florida and may enjoy spending time close to his house while staying involved in the game in a limited role. Mario Lemieux’s Helping Hand
The Magnificent One, Mario Lemieux has been seen in the Pittsburgh Penguins dressing room ahead of game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Lemieux was allegedly illustrating some power play tips on a white board for the Penguins. You might remember the heat that Tampa Bay Lightning owner Len Barrie over allegations that he was trying to coach the young Lightning and was butting heads with then Tampa coach Barry Melrose. Lemieux has a better reputation and resume than Barrie and it’s believed that his helpful tips are welcomed by the players and coaching staff alike. From AM640 Toronto Radio, The Bill Water Show.
Sutter Brother Together In Calgary
Calgary Flames General Manager Darryl Sutter has suggested to the media that he will in fact assume the head coaching duties if – and only if – his brother Brent doesn’t take the job first. Brent Sutter is currently under contract for one more season with the New Jersey Devils and neither he, nor the Devils, has commented at this point.
Koivu’s in Minnesota
A growing trend in the NHL is the desire for brothers to be close to one another. The Sedin’s, Henrik and Daniel refuse to play apart, the Niedermayer brothers were hand-in-hand in Anaheim and with Finnish star Saku Koivu’s tenure in Montreal coming to an end, there are rumblings that he will sign a contract with the Minnesota Wild to play along his brother Mikko.
